ANZ to discontinue m-banking service for non-iPhone users Tuesday 20 April 2010 | 08:59 AM CET

Financial services provider Australia & New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has decided to discontinue its ANZ M-Banking mobile banking service starting mid-May 2010, recent reports indicate. The bank’s ANZ Mobile Banking service will remain operational, however the latter can only be accessed by users who own iPhone or iPod Touch devices.

According to online media outlet zdnet.com.au, the bank’s decision has several underlying factors. Among them are the decreased popularity of the ANZ M-Banking service among its customers, as well as the fact that the same functionalities can be accessed via the ANZ TXT Banking, ANZ Internet Banking and ANZ Phone Banking services.

The bank’s decision comes in the wake of its recent pilot of the ePOS Mobile payment application, an iPhone app that is set to enable small businesses to accept credit card payments via the mobile phone.
