A global smartphone manufacturer has selected INSIDE Secure, a US provider of semiconductor solutions for secure transactions, for the integration of the latter’s near field communications (NFC) service into a next-generation smartphone. The identity of the manufacturer has not yet been released.
The new smartphone is set to use the INSIDE MicroRead NFC controller chip and INSIDE Open NFC protocol stack software to deliver NFC capabilities and support NFC applications. The implementation is set to allow smartphone users to pay for purchases or for public transport, acquire information, exchange virtual business cards, pair Bluetooth devices and Wi-Fi networks and engage in mobile transactions.
Further details are set to be provided by mid-2012 when the new smartphone is planned to be introduced commercially.
