Most Hong Kong people are reluctant to perform online banking transactions, earthtimes.org reports.
According to a survey carried out over by the pro-Beijing Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, only 22 percent of respondents use online banking services to manage their personal finances.
Approximately 35 percent of survey participants have claimed that their resistance towards making online transactions can be ascribed mainly to online fraud concerns as well as insufficient computer knowledge. Of these, elderly people have shown most cautiousness with 84 percent of respondents aged 51 or over declaring they did not use online banking.
According to Starry Lee, a member of Legislative Council of Hong Kong, confidence in banking services performed in the online environment could increase only if government and banking sector raise public awareness over transaction security.
