In 2009, Dubai eGovernment collected a total of EUR 292 million (AED 1.5 billion) from 1.4 million transactions which were processed via its electronic payment gateway, Zawya reports.
This is an increase of EUR 97.50 million (AED 500 million) as compared to EUR 195 million (AED 1 billion) registered during the previous year. The payment service enables individuals, companies or departments to process payments via three methods: credit cards, e-Dirham and direct debit from the customer's account. Currently, three national banks, namely Commercial Bank of Dubai, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Union National Bank have made the direct debit service available from the customer's account. The service will also be available through two other banks: Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Dubai Islamic Bank.
