US payment services provider Acculynk has set the launch date for its online PIN debit pilot programme in early March.
The participant pilot issuers are part of the ACCEL/Exchange EFT network, owned by information management and electronic commerce systems developer Fiserv.
In late October 2008, Acculynk and Accel/Exchange announced a partnership to conduct a pilot regarding the consumer use of PIN-debit cards for online shopping, but did not set a launch date at that time. Acculynk enables PIN-debit on the internet by integrating its service into a merchant's online-checkout system. PIN debit is the use of a bank-issued debit card with a bank-issued PIN to make payments. The company's PaySecure platform allows consumers to use their PIN debit cards to pay for online purchases. After customers submit the card information, PaySecure detects whether the card can be used with a PIN. In case it can, Acculynk's graphical PIN-pad appears at the merchant checkout, allowing the customers to enter their PIN.
