UK commercial broadcaster ITV has selected MGt, a UK-based provider of customer management outsourced services, as its payments partner, as it prepares to start charging viewers for online content.
As part of the agreement, the company will release a closed-door trial using MGt’s Pay Wizard to test various models before rolling out a public trial in 2012.
ITV has not revealed yet which models will be tested, but the company is expected to use a mixture of pay-per-view, subscription and ‘box set’ schemes. Yet, ITV Player will not be made available to international audiences.
In addition, ITV has teamed up with British satellite broadcasting company BSkyB to make its content available on the latter’s Sky Anytime+ system and it has also revealed plans to add ITV Player catch-up programming in 2012.
PayWizard is a payment service which has been developed to support multiple payment mechanisms on a host of devices. PayWizard is also used by VoD film service FilmFlex Movies and UK subscription boxing channel BoxNation.
