Kwedit unveils alternative payment methods for virtual goods and digital content Monday 8 February 2010 | 07:23 AM CET

Kwedit, a provider of alternative payment systems, has launched Kwedit Direct and Kwedit Promise, two payment services aimed at customers who are interested in purchasing digital content or virtual items but do not have a credit or debit card or prefer not to use them online.

With Kwedit Promise, online shoppers can play games and pay for virtual items later by making Promises up to a Kwedit Limit, a spending limit set by publishers and modified by consumers’ Kwedit Scores. Kwedit Scores reflect consumers’ previous payoff of Promises. Kwedit Promises can be paid off via any of the methods offered by Kwedit Direct.

With Kwedit Direct, consumers can initiate payments at participating retail stores or by mailing cash or asking a friend or family member to pay via a social payment network dubbed Pass the Duck. If recipients of Pass The Duck invitations agree to pay on another’s behalf, they can use a Kwedit Slip, Kwedit Mailer, credit or debit card, or they can Pass the Duck to someone else.

Consumers can also pay back their Promises or complete transactions directly by also using Kwedit Slip and Kwedit Mailer. Consumers can print a Kwedit Slip featuring a barcode that can be scanned at the register of a participating retailer. Kwedit Mailer allows consumers to print USPS-approved Business Reply Mailers that they fold around U.S. paper currency and send to Kwedit’s processing facility.
Kwedit Direct and Kwedit Promise have been made available through partner sites and 7-Eleven stores.
