Ukash expands presence in Spain Tuesday 9 March 2010 | 11:56 AM CET

UK-based alternative payment services provider Ukash can now offer Spanish consumers access to vouchers in 80,000 Telefónica phone booths, which can be redeemed at any merchant where Ukash is accepted.

Spanish customers have been able to obtain Ukash vouchers from Telefónica phone booths since October 2008, but the vouchers were limited in terms of where they could be spent, according to the company`s press release. Now, consumers can buy Ukash vouchers via phone booths in fixed denominations of EUR 5 and EUR 10, ATMs and through online issuance.

Users can buy Ukash vouchers from a Telefónica phone booth by following the prompts on screen. After depositing coins for the voucher's value, they will receive their Ukash 19-digit unique code via SMS, which can then be used to pay for products and services on the internet without disclosing any personal information.

In April 2009, Ukash teamed up with Spanish mobile operator Telepay to make the Ukash vouchers available via the consumer website Cuponesprepago.com.
