Chile: online banking usage on the rise

Chile currently counts with the largest percentage of people who use online banking services in Latin America at 34.8 percent, media outlet portada-online.com reports, citing a recent study published by Havas Digital, a business unit under global advertising and communications services group Havas.

The source has indicated that around 3 million Chileans currently use online banking services, with a total of 178,758,369 digital transactions posted through December 2010. However, the source has highlighted the fact that only 10 percent of online banking users in Chile handle their more complex financial affairs online and only 9 percent use online support in making financial decisions.

Moreover, online banking users in the region have pointed out that the most influential factor when choosing a bank is the institution’s website; the source has also revealed that there are still 250 million unbanked people in Latin America.

According to the source, Chile is followed by Brazil with 30.5 percent and Argentina with 24 percent of as far as online banking users are concerned. Moreover, the percentage of users of e-banking services in Mexico and Colombia was shown to be lower, at 14.7 percent and 21.7 percent respectively.
