Bitcoin ATM shuts down in New Zealand

Tuesday 29 July 2014 14:55 CET | News

A Bitcoin Central-based ATM has been shut down in New Zealand due to claims that the service could not get support from banks, nzherald.co.nz reports.

Bitcoin Central operated a two-way Bitcoin ATM in Auckland, allowing users to buy and sell the digital currency for cash.

A message displayed on the Bitcoin Central official website informs that the decision to shut the Bitcoin ATM down has been caused by the incapacity of providing customers with banking services, despite operating under legal requirements.

The ATM was launched in June 2014.
