In 2014, the newspaper conducted a test with Bitcoin micropayments provider, BitWall, whereby more than 700 Bitcoin donations were sent in support of the non-profit Taproot foundation, in only a day. Earlier in 2014, it was reported that Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad also began experimenting with Bitcoin micropayments.
