TransferWise secures USD 6 million from PayPal co-founder

UK-based startup TransferWise, a peer-to-peer international money transfer business, has secured USD 6 million from Valar Ventures, the venture fund set up by PayPal co-founder and Facebook investor Peter Thiel.

According to TransferWise co-founder Taavet Hinrikus, cited by online media outlet Reuters, the investment would enable the company to accelerate its expansion plans.

The business has now transferred more than USD 192 million worth of customers money.

Founded in March 2010, TransferWise allows expats, foreign students and businesses move money globally and licensed and regulated by the UK Financial Services Authority.
