LATAM: consumer confidence reaches 98 index points in Q1 2012

In Q1 2012, consumer confidence has reached 98 index points in Latin America, a recent study has unveiled.

According to findings from Nielsen, a global information and measurement company, 48 percent of online respondents in Latin America have declared they are in a recession.

Globally, 57 percent of consumers believe they are in a recession in Q1 2012, down from 64 percent in Q4 2011. During the period under review, global consumer confidence has increased five index points to 94. In the US, consumer confidence jumped by 9 points to 92, its highest level since before the recession while Chinas consumer confidence increased two points to 110, its highest level since the inception of Nielsens index in 2005.

The same source indicates that nearly 55 percent of global online consumers have described their personal finances for the next 12 months as excellent/good, up from 52 percent in Q4 2011, while 33 percent have indicated it was a good time to buy the things they want and need.
