All 834 city busses in Managua will be equipped with one of the most modern fare collection systems using MIFARE PLUS smart cards and MIFARE AV2 SAM technology from Netherlands-based global semiconductors manufacturer NXP Semiconductors, as well as ARC3300 T5 ticket validators from Arcontia. With enhanced user interface and contactless features, the ARC3300T5 ticket validator allows passengers to pay for their trip. Moreover, the validator comes with GPRS functionality for online communication and remote device management, enabling bus operators to receive daily financial reports. MPeso is a prepaid mobile money transfer/payment service company that launched operations in the Latin American region in January 2011.
The fare collection system being installed in Managua will be a complete electronic ticketing solution, based on contactless smart cards, issued by Mpeso through their retail network in the city. Ultimately, cash will not be accepted as payment on board buses.
In recent news, Arcontia has been selected by The Hague’s public transport company HTM in the Netherlands to equip its new trams with the Telexis e-ticketing solution based on Arcontia’s contactless smart card validators.
