Financial services provider Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) will start JCB merchant acquiring operations in Spain based on a license agreement with JCB International (JCBI), the international operations subsidiary of JCB.

BBVA will now be able to offer merchants the opportunity to capture JCB card sales along with other global payment brands. Merchants will also enable their customers to pay with their preferred card. JCBI will also work with its other partners in the region to improve JCB card acceptance and to expand the issuing business.

BBVA engages in retail banking, asset management, private banking and wholesale banking businesses. The company serves small and medium sized enterprises, corporations, public institutions, multinationals and developer sectors in Spain and internationally.

JCB is a credit card issuer and acquirer in Japan. Its acceptance network includes over 23 million merchants and over a million cash advance locations in 190 countries and territories. JCB cards are now issued in 16 countries.
