Chase’s cards with chip-and-signature technology are set to include both an embedded encrypted chip and traditional magnetic strip to accommodate merchants in the US. The embedded microchip of chip-and-signature is set to process and store data, thus preventing cyberkillers from copying it.
Consumers are expected to be able to use credit cards based on the chip-and-signature technology in locations where traditional magnetic strip cards are accepted in the US and in more than 130 countries abroad where the chip technology is implemented.
Initially, Chase Card Services will integrate the chip-and-signature technology with the JPMorgan Palladium credit card in June 2011. The card is aimed at customers who frequently travel abroad.
