Chinese bank card association China UnionPay (CUP) has signed an agreement with Taiwan Financial Information Service to extend acceptance of its CUP cards in Taiwan.

Under the terms of the deal, CUP cardholders will gain access to such services as cash withdrawals and balance inquiry at 18 bank ATMs in Taiwan, accounting for 64 percent of the gross volume of ATMs in the country. In addition, China UnionPay has unveiled plans to collaborate with other financial institution partners in both mainland China and Taiwan to continuously expand the usage of CUP cards.

Founded in 1984, the Taiwanese Financial Information Service is responsible for the planning, design and establishment of the inter-bank information network of Taiwan financial institutions, as well as for handling operation of the inter-bank information network and subsequent related development business.
