In 2010, the member banks of Lokale Pengeinstitutter (The Association of Local Banks in Denmark) will start migrating their combined portfolio of debit and ATM cards to Debit MasterCard-branded cards.

This is part of an agreement made between the association and MasterCard Europe, which enables Danish consumers to use a debit card to make payments at over 29 million acceptance locations around the world and online.

The Association of Local Banks in Denmark includes almost 100 local banks, savings banks and cooperative banks based in Denmark, The Faroe Islands and Greenland, providing services in more than 860 branches. In the Danish private customers market, the Lokale Pengeinstitutter has a market share of about 25 percent.
