Heartland Payment Systems rolls out new security technology for payment cards

Tuesday 25 May 2010 11:34 CET | News

US-based payment processor Heartland Payment Systems has made available E3, a card security technology designed to protect cardholder credit and debit card data.

The E3 devices include EMV/chip card technology features as well as the ability to update encryption technology. The E3 data security system is set to ensure that no card numbers or sensitive data is stored. Such action is performed by encrypting all data from the cards magnetic stripe when converted from analog to digital format.

To avail themselves of the new technology, merchants purchase an E3 terminal or PC-based magnetic stripe reader. Once the hardware is installed, E3 automates the process of continually changing the encryption keys that convert sensitive account information to encrypted data.

Heartland Payment Systems offers card processing, gift marketing, payroll as well as check management services across the United States.
