Interac Association, Inside Contactless team up for contactless debit initiative in Canada

Wednesday 15 July 2009 15:21 CET | News

Canadian electronic payment network Interac has teamed up with open-standard contactless chip technology company Inside Contactless to develop chips containing the specifications for Interacs contactless payment service.

Under the partnership, Interac Association and its members will gain the ability to provide a retail payments service to their debit card users. According to representatives of the companies involved, in Canada the small-ticket purchase segment represents a significant potential market for card payments. However, this particular market segment has been difficult to tap mainly due to difficulties brought about by the lack of appropriate technological solutions.

Inside Contactless delivers open-standard contactless payment and Near Field Communication (NFC) semiconductors and software for payment, transit, identity and access control applications. To date, Inside has delivered over 300 million contactless platforms worldwide to payment card and mobile phone manufacturers, systems integrators and financial institutions.
