Mastercard, Crédit Agricole collaborate on biometric card pilot

Thursday 20 June 2019 | 12:27 PM CET

Mastercard has revealed it is working with Crédit Agricole Payment Services on a biometric card pilot for 200 customers in France.

They will trial the card that features an integrated fingerprint sensor. As such, cardholders will place their finger on the sensor to make secure and prompt contactless payments, without the ceiling limit of 30 Euros. Moreover, this new card can be used as usual with the PIN code including withdrawals in distributors. However, this use, made via contactless technology, will not be limited by an amount ceiling.

The biometric bank card project is managed by Crédit Agricole Payment Services, in partnership with G + D Mobile Security, which customises biometric payment cards; NXP Semiconductors, which provides G + D with all-in-one electronic module and embedded software for a biometric bank card; and Mastercard, which supports the pilot and gives approvals.
