Oberthur Technologies awarded MasterCard certification for Flash memory based card

Friday 9 October 2009 11:59 CET | News

French-based security and smartcard technology provider Oberthur Technologies has received MasterCard Compliance Assessment & Security Testing (CAST) program certification for its Flash memory based payment card.

Flash memory based products reduce time to market by eliminating the “masking” phase, which is usually required to load software onto the payment card’s chip during the manufacturing process. Thus, financial institutions gain more flexibility in card issuance. With Flash memory, cards can be loaded with debit, credit or other payment applications without the need for a “masking” process. Flash technology is frequently used in SIM cards for mobile or mass storage devices.

Oberthur Technologies provides card-based solutions, software and applications that include SIM and multi-application smart cards and consultancy services. The product line of the company includes payment cards, mobile communications, identity cards and systems.
