The trial allows customers to carry out contactless payments for purchases worth GBP 10 or less. According to Poundland representatives, the contactless payment technology deployed in the retailer’s stores can process payments for low-value items in less than half a second, thus enhancing transaction speed.
Recent data indicates that up to seven million new contactless payment cards are expected to be issued in the UK by the end of 2009.
