Romanian financial institution BRD, a subsidiary of French financial services company Societe Generale, has selected France-based global technology provider Oberthur Technologies for the latter’s dual interface payment cards with apps including payment schemes, as well as functionalities for transport, access control, PKI and biometry.

Under the agreement, BRD and Oberthur Technologies have launched a MultiPass Transport card in collaboration with Romanian transport operators RATB and Metrorex. Cardholders can wave their MultiPass Transport card in front of validators in the bus, in the tram or in the metro. In addition, this MasterCard Paypass card can also be used for contact or contactless payments.

Additionally, BRD has launched the Supporter Card, a multi-application card for football fans. Oberthur Technologies’ Smart OneCard service integrated in BRD’s website allows customers to personalise the visual of their cards among those available in a gallery or by uploading a personal photo. Then, the card is used to grant physical access through the stadium gates equipped with contactless turnstiles.

In recent news, Oberthur Technologies is set to acquire mobile payments platform provider MoreMagic Solutions. Under the terms of the acquisition, Oberthur Technologies and MoreMagic are set to provide mobile money services including end-to-end payment and money transfer services enabling mobile operators and financial institutions to deliver financial services in mobility such as proximity, remote payment and mobile banking.
