The number of transactions performed between 1 and 20 June 2010 reached 900,000 (45,000 per day on average), up 60 percent from nearly 600,000 (30,000 a day on average) during the same 20 days in 2009. Moreover, the amount of money spent by international visitors on their Visa cards on the first ten days of the FIFA World Cup has registered an 81 percent increase versus the same period in 2009.
According to the same report, countries such as the UK, the US, Australia, France and Brazil qualify as the main contributors to the significant rate of spending tourism with a 51 percent figure. In addition, over 90 percent of the purchases have been made for typical leisure and business travel goods, the report points out.
