TMG partners First Data to implement DefenseEdge tool

The Members Group (TMG), a credit union service organization, has entered an agreement with First Data, a US-based electronic commerce and payment processing company, to implement the latter’s fraud prevention tool, dubbed DefenseEdge.

DefenseEdge is able to identify fraudulent activities from non-monetary actions, such as a change of address request or a PIN change, which can signal account takeovers or counterfeit cards. TMG’s fraud detection system is also able to call up this information on-demand.

Additionally, DefenseEdge can also be used to prevent bust-out fraud attacks. In order to prevent this type of fraud, financial institutions can create a decision element inside DefenseEdge to count the number of invalid card security codes (CV2/CV) attempts in a specified period of time. Once an account encounters a particular threshold, the account will be blocked to prevent further CV2/CV attempts by the potential bust-out fraudsters.

TMG’s credit and debit card clients will be able to deploy DefenseEdge at their option. Clients currently using First Data’s Falcon Fraud Detection system can be moved to this new fraud prevention tool upon request.

TMG’s core products include credit, debit, ATM and ATIRA-branded prepaid services, as well as online reporting, ACH and ALM services.
