As a result, the Link Scheme has opened its UK cash machine network to Chinese cardholders, allowing over 1.8 billion Chinese cards to be used for withdrawals via Link’s 64,000 ATMs.
According to Link, the UK Office of National Statistics estimates that 141,000 Chinese tourists visited the UK in 2007, spending an estimated GBP 181 million. Additionally, around 100,000 Chinese students study for more than one year in the UK, each of spending an estimated GBP 25,000 per year.
