UK: TfL supports contactless payments for blacks cabs

Tuesday 1 November 2016 11:26 CET | News

Transport for London (TfL) has announced that all black cabs are now using contactless technology, letting passengers pay for any journey using a compatible credit or debit card.

In February 2016, TfL announced it would require all black cab drivers to accept card payments by October 2017. At that time, only half of all London’s 22.500 licensed taxis accepted cards.

For the remainder of 2016 the card payment devices can be either fixed or handheld, but TfL has specified that they will need to be installed in the passenger compartment from January 2017.
