The Univision MasterCard prepaid products will be issued by The Bancorp Bank pursuant to license by MasterCard International. The two prepaid cards are meant to provide Hispanic consumers with access to financial tools that can be used anywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted. They will be made available nationally in 2010. The Univision Prepaid MasterCard Card enables consumers to track and manage spending by offering them the possibility of monitoring when and where they make purchases with the card.
Statistics released by the Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI) indicate that almost 40 million US households are financially underserved (accounting for 106 million people). Of these, 19 percent are Hispanic. Nearly 35.4 percent of Hispanic-Americans are unbanked, as compared to 31.6 percent of Black Non-Hispanic Americans.
