US: 73% of adults believe current credit, debit card payment networks are efficient

The majority of US adults believe that the current credit and debit card payment networks are efficient, trustworthy and secure, recent data indicates.

According to a poll conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of the American Bankers Association, almost three quarters (73 percent) of adults agree that through the credit and debit payment system, transactions are processed seamlessly and efficiently. The same source unveils that more than six-in-ten (65 percent) believe they can trust in the current system, while 61 percent trust that their privacy and security are protected in this system. Furthermore, 80 percent of respondents believe that credit card companies provide protection and security to their customers when it comes to their personal and financial information.

Results also shows that 31 percent of adults have declared they have been a victim of credit card fraud and among those who have been victims of credit card fraud, 94 percent have mentioned they were either fully or partially reimbursed for their

Findings unveil that 92 percent have stated they have either never or only occasionally had a technical problem in which they were told that their transaction could not be processed when checking out.
The survey was based on a sample of 1,009 US adults aged 18 and older conducted between February 28 and March 4, 2013.
