US Bank to start issuing chip technology in corporate cards for US-based international travelers

Wednesday 24 August 2011 09:44 CET | News

US corporate travel card issuer US Bank is set to begin issuing commercial cards with EMV chip technology for US-based international corporate travelers.

US Bank’s international cards are expected to enable users to carry out card payments via the chip-card readers commonly used overseas or the magnetic stripe readers that still predominate in the United States.

The new commercial card offering follows a June 2011 announcement that US Bank had started to issue “dual interface” chip technology to US consumers with its FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa card. The addition of commercial cards has been in the planning stages in response to client requests and market research.

U.S. Bank already issues chip-enabled cards to its commercial customers in Canada. In July 2011, the bank began issuing commercial cards with full chip-and-PIN capability for corporate clients in Europe.
