In the US, most consumers prefer to access their accounts via the internet instead of using a mobile device, a new research has unveiled.

According to a study carried by research company Auriemma Consulting Group, almost 50 percent of respondents have mentioned they would apply for a credit card via the internet, whereas 26 percent would send the application by mail, 13 percent would consider calling a free number and 12 percent would go directly to the bank to fill in the application.

The research has also revealed the fact that in 2011, 75 percent of respondents access their accounts online, as compared to 64 percent in March 2009. Auriemma’s statistics show that 13 percent of respondents access their card accounts via a smartphone or tablet, while only less than 6 percent accessed their data via text messaging.

According to Auriemma Consulting Group’s study, 90 percent of cardholders who use a mobile application have checked their account balance and 70 percent of them have also completed transactions or analyzed credit history.

In addition, 49 percent of respondents would feel drawn to access their accounts online if they would receive rewards points.

The study is based on a sample of 509 online US adult credit card users.
