Uzbekistan-based interbank payment system Uzkart has inked a contract with BPC Banking Technologies, a global provider of Open Systems e-payment services, for the development of a new national switch and processing platform for Uzbekistan.

As part of agreement, BPC Banking Technologies will replace Uzkart’s DUET based legacy payments processing infrastructure via its SmartVista suite. SmartVista will enable Uzkart to support and manage payments across all channels, including POS, branch, internet and mobile applications. SmartVista supports all aspects of card management and has been certified by payment brands such as American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa together with certification for EMV issuing and acquiring.

Furthermore, BPC is set to replace DUET in Uzbekistan’s ATMs, POS and kiosk networks to allow them accept EMV transactions. Pilot testing for EMV is expected to begin during the first half of 2011 while the full rollout is planned by the end of the year. The migration to SmartVista will also enable the production of cards and terminals and will introduce e-commerce capabilities.

The Uzkart national payment system includes 28 participating banks issuing more than 8.5 million cards.
