Visa, EATP to promote card spend

Wednesday 17 July 2013 07:51 CET | News

Visa has entered into an alliance with the East African Tourism Platform (EATP) to boost global tourism interest in the region and promote inbound tourism spend.

The collaboration will focus on various initiatives across the region such as sharing practices in the tourism and payments industries, promoting access to the electronic payments chain and implementing stakeholder networking forums in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

According to Visa’a Head of Cross-Border Marketing for Sub-Saharan Africa Jodie Schorn, cited by online media outlet All Africa, Visa will help boost electronic transactions in the tourism industry by providing input on setting up online payments platforms, offering advice about planning and paying for travel with payment cards and educating trade partners and consumers on the benefits of card payments.

The collaboration will also look at measures aimed at further strengthening inflows from both emerging markets, such as China and India, and traditional markets, such as the UK, US and Germany.
