Visas 2010 total payments volume up 23.2% in Latin America and the Caribbean

Visa’s total payments volume in Latin America and the Caribbean was worth USD 270 billion for the year ended on 31 December 2010, a 23.2 percent increase compared to 2009, recent financial results have revealed.

As far as Brazil and Mexico are concerned, the countries saw their 2010 total Visa payments volume grow by 24.6 percent and 16.8 percent, respectively, compared to 2009. In addition, the results have shown that the rest of the countries in the region witnessed an increase in their 2010 Visa payments volume by 22.8 percent over 2009.

Moreover, the results have revealed that Visa’s Q4 2010 payments volume for Latin America and the Caribbean grew by 26.7 percent to USD 82 billion. The number of transactions processed by the company in the region reached 916 million in Q4 2010, a 226 million transactions increase compared to Q4 2009.

Furthermore, the company’s 2010 payments volume for Visa debit products registered a 28.2 percent growth in Brazil and a 19.1 percent increase in Mexico. The results have shown that Visa’s 2010 credit payments volume increased by 22.6 percent in Brazil and 14.8 percent in Mexico.
