Vivotech to enable acceptance of MasterCard PayPass in Brazil

Monday 23 November 2009 08:48 CET | News

US NFC, mobile payments, loyalty and marketing applications company Vivotech will provide its contactless technology Vivopay to enable the first deployment of MasterCard PayPass technology in Brazil.

This will be achieved by allowing the Brazilian acquiring company Redecard to enable multiple merchant locations for contactless card acceptance throughout multiple verticals.

MasterCard and Redecard have joined forces with Credicard, Citibank’s credit card administrator in Brazil for the rollout of MasterCard PayPass contactless payment technology in Rio de Janeiro for public transportation and other quick service merchants. Using Vivotechs contactless technology, Redecard has already enabled the acceptance of MasterCard PayPass at multiple locations, such as the Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain) lift, Supervia train stations, UCI cinemas, McDonalds fast food restaurants and Estapar/Riopark parking lots. The Rio de Janeiro Metro system will also be enabled.
