Akamai rolls out new payment tokenization service

Tuesday 28 September 2010 10:28 CET | News

Akamai Technologies, a Singapore-based provider of online dynamic transactions and enterprise applications, has launched Edge Tokenization, an electronic payment security service.

Akamai’s newly developed security application is set to contribute to the decrease of information theft and compliance risk by enabling consumer credit card data to be identified and replaced with an anonymous token, which along with the true card number, is stored in a secure data vault managed by the tokenization provider. Akamai interacts with existing payment gateway Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to tokenize card and cardholder information without storing higher-risk data to disk.

As part of the Edge Tokenization launch, Akamai has entered a partnership with CyberSource to integrate its technology with tokenization services offered by the latter. The partnership is expected to provide Akamais customers with integration capabilities to enterprise payment tokenization services.

Akamai provides services for optimizing web and mobile content and applications, online HD video, and e-commerce.
