Discover supports FIDOs creation, adoption of new authentication methods

Monday 23 December 2013 08:49 CET | News

US-based payment company Discover Financial Services has joined the FIDO Alliance, which is formed by a group of companies working to develop new standards for online authentication.

Discover has also been named to FIDOs board of directors. It joins twelve other companies on the alliances board, including MasterCard, Google and PayPal.

FIDO members must commit to sharing technology and working together in order to develop authentication standards that are compliant with each others systems. The group is working toward creating secure, industry-standard authentication methods that would replace the password.

In recent news, Microsoft, authentication company Sonavation, data protection services provider SafeNet and global supplier of advanced telecommunications-based fraud prevention ValidSoft have also joined the FIDO Alliance.
