Gemalto to deploy Dexxis Instant Issuance services suite in Indonesia

Netherlands-based digital security company Gemalto is set to deploy its Dexxis Instant Issuance solution in Indonesia to enable on-the-spot delivery of secure microprocessor–based banking cards.

Gemalto is currently working with local partner SAI (Smart Aplikasi Indonesia), an affiliate of IT Network solutions provider Alita.

The challenge in Indonesia is how to cost-effectively reach a population of consumers with microbanking services when 90 percent are unbanked and dispersed among 17,500 islands. Gemalto’s solution is decentralized instant card issuance. The Dexxis services suite offer includes EMV smart cards, servers, software, printers and training to deploy the solution over a secure TCP/IP trusted network in the banking and retail environment.

By using fingerprint biometric authentication from the software inside the chip, the smart cards provide a high level of security to the cardholder and the issuer. The biometric component also simplifies the use of the card by eliminating the need to remember a PIN code. The card can store various types of secure banking services such as an e-purse, prepaid data, deposit remittances, savings and loans, as well as financial and health insurance.

Furthermore, the card serves as an electronic statement, logging up to 150 transactions, to help cardholders and financial institutions keep track of account activity and eliminating the need for paper statements.
