TNT Innight, NXP, IPEX Group test drive RFID technology for overnight delivery service

Tuesday 29 September 2009 08:34 CET | News

The Dutch arm of overnight express distribution services provider TNT Innight has teamed up with Netherlands-based semiconductor company TNT and label manufacturer IPEX Group to launch a field test to incorporate RFID technology into its overnight delivery service.

TNT Innight hopes that RFID technology will enhance its ability to manage delivery logistics, whilst also offering customers a track and trace service. The aim of the project has been to enable returnable transport items to be tracked from the point of departure at the customer’s premises to the delivery locations, encompassing the entire supply chain back to the customer.

Within the trial, IPEX Group is set to incorporate NXP’s ultra-high frequency UCODE G2XL smart label ICs into labels used to track 2,000 boxes around the Netherlands.

During the initial three-month trial, TNT Innight worked with three customers in the agriculture, installation and medical industries to deliver returnable transport items to several delivery locations.
