UK: 86 percent of card fraud carried out online

Monday 2 July 2012 08:20 CET | News

86 percent of card fraud is carried out online, a recent study has unveiled. According to a survey released by fraud prevention service CIFAS, criminals are able to hijack peoples accounts because they have the necessary data, including personal details such as dates of birth, email addresses, account numbers or passwords that enable them to circumvent security measures.

The same source indicates that card fraud has jumped 28 percent over the first five months of 2012, as compared to the same period in 2011.

CIFAS communications manager Richard Hurley, cited by online media outlet computeractive.co.uk, advised individuals and businesses to protect their data and ensure online information are secure, otherwise they risk becoming the next victim.
