Virgin Atlantic Airways selects Semafone to protect card data

Thursday 14 March 2013 08:54 CET | News

Airline company Virgin Atlantic Airways (VAA) has selected UK payment security technology company Semafone to protect card data provided by customers over the telephone.

The voice solution will enable PCI compliant payment card payments throughout VAA’s contact centres worldwide. The Semafone solution allows customers to enter their own card details into their telephone keypad and passes these directly to the bank. The agent cannot see or hear the card numbers but remains on the call during the entry of payment data to offer assistance if needed. No card data is processed or stored on VAA’s telephony infrastructure or agent desktops, removing the need for the numerous checks and controls that would otherwise be needed to comply with PCI regulations.

Founded in 2009, Semafone offers a solution which takes telephone payments out of the scope of PCI DSS regulations. The company’s mission is to secure voice transactions and reduce credit card fraud in contact centres worldwide in order to support the global scale of the PCI mandate. The company already has a customer base than includes Europe, North America and Africa.
