Finnish e-procurement and e-invoicing software company Basware has entered an agreement with the State Treasury of Finland, under the terms of which is expected to offer companies that do not yet have an e-invoicing capability a free service for sending their invoices to the State in electronic format.

As a result, through the provision of Basware’s Supplier Portal, the State Treasury of Finland is expected to enable suppliers of all sizes to utilize e-invoicing technology in their commercial transactions with the government body subsidized by the treasury itself.

The Finnish State agencies currently handle 13 million sales invoices and 1.9 million purchase invoices annually and have over 230,000 suppliers on their database.

Basware’s global open network allows suppliers to employ their existing e-invoicing offerings without the need to install proprietary technologies for connecting buyers and suppliers. Basware enables buyers and suppliers to use one interface to connect with their business partners either directly via Basware or through its e-invoicing network partners.

In recent news, Basware has seen the number of active suppliers and buyers in its Open Network reach 320,000 in 2011, compared to a reported 160,000 in 2010. The figure is set to include a number of new customers, as well as existing customers.
