Thursday 30 July 2009 08:21 CET | News

Canadian electric power distributor Toronto Hydro has launched an investigation in cooperation with local law enforcement authorities after it discovered a breach in its e-billing system which affected as many as 179,000 individual consumer accounts.

According to a statement released by the company, the electronic bills are sent to consumers on a monthly basis and include such information such as consumers’ full names, account numbers and home addresses. However, the e-bills do not include banking or prepayment details, as Toronto Hydro representatives insist that no financial information was compromised as a result of the breach.
