Amazon launches in Spain

Thursday 15 September 2011 13:24 CET | News

Amazon.com has launched an online store in Spain, according to Spanish newspapers El Pais and El Mundo, cited by paidcontent.org.

Amazon.es will only sell physical goods, including books, music, DVDs and electronics, but will expand its digital offerings by the end of the year, the same source indicates. Amazon has been buying electronic rights from Spanish publishers like Roca Editorial, Random House Mondadori, Santillana and Asteroid Books.

The company is also offering two- to three-day shipping through Amazon Prime for EUR 14.95 per year. For the time being, clients making purchases via Amazon.es will not have access to the Kindle application, which is currently available via the companys main US website.

Amazon currently has stores in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, China, Japan and Canada. It opened the UK Kindle Store in August 2010 and the German Kindle Store this past April.
