Australia: the Federal Government announces changes to e-commerce laws

Australia`s Federal Government has begun updating the laws covering e-commerce in order to meet international requirements, by introducing the Electronic Transactions Amendment Bill 2011 into the House of Representatives, according to online media outlet zdnet.com.

Amendments proposed in the Bill will corroborate the Australian law with the United Nations Convention on the Use of Electronic Communications in International Contracts 2005. The government is set have the legislation approved by the UN.

According to zdnet.com, such reforms will provide increased legal certainty in trade by electronic means, and will boost electronic contracting growth both at a local and international level.

Other changes brought by Australias laws are related to businesses operating in the digital economy, legal certainty and growth of domestic and international electronic contracting.
