AutoNavi, Alibaba to develop location-based e-commerce opportunities

AutoNavi, a provider of digital map content, navigation and location-based solutions in China, has entered an alliance with Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba to jointly explore and develop location-based e-commerce opportunities.

The two companies have revealed plans to share certain data, including AutoNavis map data and location-related information of the merchants on Alibabas e-commerce platforms, including Taobao Marketplace and Tmall.com.

AutoNavi and Alibaba will also cooperate in the areas of map engine, location search, navigation and cloud computing services and will cross-promote their respective products and services, with a goal of developing new location-based business models.

In recent news, Alibaba has signed a MoU with Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and have jointly launched an e-commerce portal to enable online trading for Dubai and regional businesses.
