E-commerce sales in China have increased by 66 percent in 2011, reaching USD 124 billion, a recent study has unveiled.

According to a report released by Chinese e-commerce group Alibaba and research firm IDC, the internet currently delivers 3 percent of the total retail sales in China.

The same source forecasts that the figure will jump to 7 percent in 2015, as a result of an increasing number of online shoppers and confidence in purchasing online.

According to data provided by the China Internet Network Information Center, the online population in China has reached 505 million users. Results have also indicated that the overall penetration rate is still only 37.7 percent.
