China reaches 194 million online shoppers in 2011

In China, the number of online shoppers has jumped to 194 million in 2011, while the number group buyers has grown by 245 percent annually, according to China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC).

The findings of the data released by CNNIC have indicated that online shopping has witnessed a 21 percent increase as compared to 2010. E-commerce has also experienced a significant expansion, including online payment, e-banking, online tour reservation and mobile phone payment. Group purchasing has reached 65 million users in 2011, becoming the second fastest growing online service.

The number of people who access the internet through mobile phones has grown to 356 million, accounting for more than 69 percent of all internet users in China, according to CNNIC.

When it comes to video users, their number has increased due to video websites adding to their libraries, increased publication of user-generated videos and legitimate broadcasting of popular TV series. Microblogging websites were also important in disseminating videos.

Furthermore, the number of internet users in China is estimated to have reached 505 million as of November 2011, up from 485 million at the end of June 2011.
