Ecommerce in Czech Republic hit EUR 5.25 bln in 2018

Ecommerce in the Czech Republic was worth EUR 5.25 billion in 2018, twice as much as in 2014, according to a report by Research and Markets.

The report, Payments Landscape in the Czech Republic: Opportunities and Risks to 2022, found that the growing adoption of ecommerce in the Czech Republic is due to an increased confidence in ecommerce, online security and a number of online stores.

Other key findings:

  • in 2018, 90% of Czech consumers shopped online at least once;

  • cash is still the most popular payment method in the country, accounting for 62.1% of the total payment transaction volume In 2018;

  • the use of payment cards has been growing during the last four years;

  • debit cards are the most popular, both in terms of number of cards in circulation and the transaction value;

  • credit and charge cards were on average only 13 cards per 100 individuals in 2018.
